Tropical Cyclone Batsirai Bears Down on Madagascar


Tropical Cyclone Batsirai made landfall in east Madagascar at around 8 pm on Saturday, February 5, according to Meteo-France, the French national meteorological agency. The storm was packing average wind speeds of 167 km/h (103.7 mph) and it eye measured than to 40 km (31 miles) in diameter, the agency said. According to World Food Programme (WFP) officials on the ground, heavy wind and rain lashed the island nation in the hours beforehand.
