PM: I will not ‘cancel’ Katherine Deves

Prime Minister Scott Morrison says Australians are getting “pretty fed-up with having to walk on eggshells every day” as he defends his choice not to “cancel” Liberal candidate for Warringah Katherine Deves.

Ms Deves has created division within the Liberal Party over her social media posts about transgender people, with NSW Treasurer Matt Kean calling for her to be disendorsed.

However, Mr Morrison has stood by Ms Deves and her campaigning for women’s sport, saying she had learned from her past mistakes.

“Others might want to cancel her; others might want to cancel other Australians for standing up for things that they believe in, but I am not going to be in partnership with them,” he said.
